Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Campaign Walkthrough

Chapter-by-chapter guide through the full story.

Last updated:

The campaign in Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 takes you and your fireteam through approximately 12 story chapters across space station and planetary environments. This walkthrough covers every chapter’s objectives, key combat encounters, and difficulty recommendations to help you push through to the finale.

Campaign overview

The story follows a Colonial Marine fireteam deployed to investigate a worsening situation at a remote space station and subsequently several planetary outposts connected to a broader Xenomorph infestation. The narrative draws from established Aliens lore — Weyland-Yutani, USCM operations, and the Xenomorph species — without requiring prior knowledge of the franchise.

Missions are unlocked sequentially. Replay any completed mission at any difficulty from the mission select screen. Side objectives within missions (such as finding allintel documents or reaching a secondary extraction point) are optional but reward bonus credits and lore entries.

Difficulty recommendation

Play the campaign on Veteran difficulty as a organised squad. The challenge is significant but fair — enemies telegraph attacks, spawn points are consistent, and the pacing allows for tactical decisions. Heroic is appropriate for experienced players who want a greater challenge but do not want the extreme difficulty spike of Insane.

Chapter breakdown

Chapter 1: Deployment Your fireteam arrives at the station. This is primarily a tutorial mission introducing movement, class abilities, and basic combat against Drone enemies. No difficult encounters. Expect minor enemy contact until the penultimate room, which introduces Runner packs.

Side objective: Collect three intel documents in the starting area before proceeding to the extraction.

Chapter 2: Comms Relay You are tasked with restoring a damaged communications relay. The mission introduces the Spitter enemy — these ranged aliens attack from distance and must be prioritised. Clear the exterior compound before entering the relay building. Inside, the corridors tighten and Drone packs become denser.

Side objective: Restore all three relay antenna modules before the timer expires (there is no hard timer, but a secondary objective flags the fastest completion time).

Chapter 3: Hab Ring Explores the living quarters of the station. Environmental storytelling is prominent. Combat encounters mix Drone and Runner packs in tight corridors where Machinist turrets excel. Introduces the Stalker variant — fast enemies that attempt to flank from side passages.

Side objective: Locate the emergency supply cache in thehab ring’s storage section.

Chapter 4: Xenonui Hive The mission pivots to a partially-infested planetary outpost. Hive sections are visually distinct and mechanically different — visibility is reduced, movement is slower, and Spore enemies appear in enclosed spaces. Your squad should switch to close-range weapons (shotguns, the Machinist’s flamethrower) in hive sections.

Side objective: Destroy three Xenomorph egg clusters in the hive section.

Chapter 5: Command Deck A high-intensity chapter set across the station’s command level. Synth enemies appear for the first time — these do not flinch, carry shields, and fire accurately. Coordinate focus fire to bring them down quickly. The chapter ends with a multi-wave defence sequence where your squad holds a position against escalating enemy pushes.

Side objective: Eliminate all synthetic hostiles without any squad member taking a direct synthetic weapon hit.

Chapter 6: Extraction Under Fire Extraction mission with significant enemy presence between your position and the shuttle. This is the first mission where squad coordination genuinely determines success. Enemies spawn from multiple directions. Your Medic should prioritise keeping the squad topped up between pushes. Recommend holding at the midway checkpoint rather than rushing to extraction.

Side objective: Reach extraction without any squad member dying.

Chapter 7: The Reclamation Returns to a hive environment with expanded interior spaces. Introduces the Praetorian — a large, heavily armoured Xenomorph variant that requires sustained heavy-weapon fire to bring down. Marauder’s Titan Rockets are highly effective. Do not attempt to melee a Praetorian.

Side objective: Defeat the Praetorian using only primary weapons (no heavy weapons).

Chapter 8: Broken Alliance Story-critical chapter introducing faction tension alongside Xenomorph threats. Combat mix of human adversaries and alien enemies. Your squad will face Weyland-Yutani security synthetics alongside Drone packs. Weapon loadout should account for both armour types — standard rifle ammunition is effective against unarmoured targets; prioritise the smartgun for armoured synthetics.

Side objective: Reach the objective without triggering the facility security alarm.

Chapter 9: Last Stand Defensive mission across three sequential positions. Enemy waves escalate across all three positions. Machinist turret placement is critical — set up before each wave starts. The chapter ends with a large-scale Horde encounter in the final position.

Side objective: Complete all three positions without losing any squad member.

Chapter 10: Descent Deep hive infiltration. Low visibility, atmospheric horror, and dense enemy concentrations. This chapter rewards players who have levelled their classes and unlocked strong ability fragments. Specialist builds become genuinely effective here.

Side objective: Collect all five lore documents hidden across the hive sections.

Chapter 11: Hell’s Gate Major story encounter. Introduces the Matriarch — a boss-scale Xenomorph entity with multiple phases. Each phase requires different tactics as the Matriarch’s attack patterns change. Sustained DPS in phase one, evasive repositioning in phase two, and heavy-weapon bursts in phase three. Medic stims are critical between phases.

Chapter 12: Extraction Final mission. Combines every enemy type encountered in the campaign into a gauntlet run. Squad positioning and communication are the primary factors that determine success. The extraction sequence involves an extended combat push with no safe rest points. Ensure your squad is fully stocked on ammo and grenades before initiating the final push.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the campaign? Approximately 8-12 hours on Veteran difficulty, depending on squad coordination and familiarity with the game. Solo play extends this to 15-20 hours.

Should I replay missions for side objectives? Side objectives are optional but worth doing for the bonus credits and lore entries. The bonus credits accumulate into meaningful weapon upgrade funds. Lore entries add context to the Aliens universe.

Does the game have multiple endings? The main story ending is fixed. Side objective completion does not alter the narrative outcome but affects the epilogue text and your final score.

Can I skip the campaign and go straight to Horde? Yes, Horde mode is available from the mission select screen without completing the campaign.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2.

Do I need to play on a specific difficulty to unlock Horde?

No. Horde mode is unlocked from the start and available at all difficulty levels.

Are there missable side objectives?

Side objectives can only be completed during the mission in which they appear. Once you exit a mission, you must replay it to attempt missed side objectives.

What is the best class for the campaign?

No single class dominates the campaign. A balanced squad with Medic, Marauder, and Duelist covers most situations effectively. Specialist becomes excellent once your base classes are levelled.

Do chapter checkpoints save side objectives?

Yes. Side objective progress is saved at chapter checkpoints. If you exit mid-chapter and replay, you resume from the last checkpoint with previous side objectives marked complete.
