Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Duelist

Sustained rifle DPS with two primary slots. Mobile, aggressive, and precise.

Last updated:

The Duelist is the flexible rifle damage dealer in Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, rebuilt from the original Gunner. Where the first Fireteam Elite locked each class into a fixed primary and secondary weapon pair, the Duelist carries two primary weapon slots simultaneously. This fundamentally changes how you approach loadouts — you are no longer choosing between sustained fire and precision; you are bringing both and swapping between them mid-mission as enemy compositions shift.

Class role

Duelist is a sustained and burst damage class. It rewards accurate aim, aggression, and the tactical flexibility to switch between weapon roles as encounters demand. The dual-primary system makes it the most adaptable class in the roster — it can be tuned for drone clearing, heavy elimination, or a balanced approach depending on the mission.

Signature weapons

DB-48 Daittyo Heavy Rifle — Stable, high-capacity sustained fire. The default sustained option. Excellent accuracy, manageable recoil, and a magazine size that lets you hold a chokepoint for extended periods without reloading. Best for Drone and Runner waves.

HNT-1 E1 Alamein Revolver Rifle — High-damage precision rifle. Slower fire rate but significantly higher per-shot damage. Effective against Praetorians, Stalkers, and other medium-health enemies. The precision optic makes it the Duelist’s answer to anything that requires accuracy over volume.

M41A Classic Pulse Rifle — A returning favourite. The M41A provides the Duelist with an aggressive mid-range option that bridges the gap between the sustained Daittyo and the precision Alamein. Effective in the majority of combat situations.

Tool and grenade options

Burst / Fragment / Precision Configuration — The Duelist’s signature tool, a modular grenade system with three configurations:

  • Burst Configuration: Standard explosive area damage. All-round option for general combat.
  • Fragment Configuration: Cluster bomb pattern. Better for dispersed Drone and Runner packs.
  • Precision Configuration: Remote-detonation charge. Place it and choose when to detonate. Useful for luring enemies into a kill zone or detonating under a charging Praetorian.

Shrapnel Grenade — The default grenade, available without configuring the tool slot. Reliable and familiar.

Perks

Stay on Target — Damage ramps up the longer consecutive hits land on the same enemy. Resets on weapon switch or after a short gap in damage. This perk rewards aggressive, continuous fire over careful shot placement. In sustained fights against Praetorians and heavy enemies, Stay on Target turns the Duelist into one of the highest consistent DPS classes.

Mobility — Increases movement speed, improves stun recovery, and extends the Stay on Target bonus window. This makes the Duelist more mobile and harder to pin down. Against flanking enemies, Mobility lets you reposition without losing your damage ramp.

Build recommendations

**General purpose (campaign and Horde) **Primary: DB-48 Daittyo / HNT-1 E1 Alamein. Config: Burst Configuration. Perks: Stay on Target + Mobility. This covers sustained drone waves and gives you precision fire for priority targets.

Aggressive Horde build Primary: M41A Pulse Rifle (sustained fire, fast reload) + DB-48 Daittyo. Config: Fragment Configuration for packed Drone waves. Perks: Mobility + Stay on Target. Prioritise movement and damage ramp over defensive tools.

Precision / Boss build Primary: HNT-1 E1 Alamein + M41A. Config: Precision Configuration for controlled detonation on heavy targets. Perks: Stay on Target only. Maximise single-target damage for campaign bosses and Horde elite enemies.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Duelist better than the original Gunner? The dual-primary system is a significant upgrade. The original Gunner was effective but inflexible. The Duelist can adapt within a mission rather than being locked into a single loadout philosophy.

Do both primary weapons share ammo? No. Each primary weapon has its own independent ammunition pool. You can empty your Daittyo, switch to the Alamein, and continue fighting while the Daittyo auto-reloads.

What is the best Duelist build for solo play? Precision build with Stay on Target. Solo play requires you to handle all enemy types independently. The HNT-1 E1 Alamein can deal with Praetorians and heavy enemies while the M41A clears drones.

Does Stay on Target stack with itself across weapon switches? No. Switching weapons resets the Stay on Target ramp. The Mobility perk extends the window between hits, reducing the chance of accidental resets, but firing a different weapon always resets the ramp.

Can the Duelist use heavy weapons? The Duelist has no inherent heavy weapon proficiency. You can equip the M12A1 Rocket Launcher as a pickup from the ammo crate between Horde waves, but your class abilities and perks do not enhance heavy weapon performance.
